Education Day has become an annual tradition at SNA, from kindergarten through high school! While its primary purpose is to provide a community-building experience to celebrate another year of fantastic learning, it also serves as a great example of Place-Based Learning because it connects students to our community’s local culture and history. How so? ​ Historic Holman Stadium is an important part of Nashua history, as the home of the first racially-integrated professional baseball team in the United States.  This is an opportunity for SNA to come together with other schools from across the city! Two days per year sell out with schools from across Nashua. It’s a great way to strengthen ties with the Nashua Silver Knights, a team that is doing an immense amount of work to increase community engagement. We believe that this is an incredible opportunity for our students to learn about and value our local history and strengthen community ties. It’s also just really fun! Finally, this trip also serves as a foundation for our Family Knights Out, creating shared experiences that help our families connect and build lasting friendships outside of school hours! 9:45 am: Depart by car from SNA Campus 10:00 am: Arrive at Holman Stadium 10:30 am: First pitch! 11:00 am: Lunch 1:00 pm: Depart by car from Holman Stadium  1:15 pm: Return to SNA for the remainder of the school day

All SNA students will be assigned to a carpooling group. They will ride to and from the game in the same vehicle and with the same parent/guardian chaperone. Teaching teams will review all carpool groupings. However, we are happy to review our groupings with families, upon request, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable with the planned rides/drivers. Booster seats: If your student requires a booster seat, please leave it on the front porch at drop-off. They will be installed in cars ahead of departure. Seatbelt: All students must wear a seatbelt! Front Seat Passengers: Only students who are ages 13+ will be allowed to ride in the front seat of vehicles. If you have a student who is older than 13 but you prefer that they ride in the backseat, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing info@2ndnatureacademy.com.

Our school will have designated seats together in one area of the stadium. Lower school students will fill in the first several rows of our section and upper school students will sit toward the back. Teachers will spread out with their classes, as well as any chaperones who stay with us for the game. Teachers and administrators will conduct numerous head counts throughout the game and will supervise students while eating. As needed, teachers and administrators will escort students to the bathrooms in small groups.  Teachers and administrators will have their cell phones and walkie talkies with them during the trip for communication.  Emergency backpacks will be brought with us by classroom teachers (lower school). Upper school students are expected to have any emergency medication with them while off campus (epi-pens, inhalers).  As a reminder, students will be provided with lunch by the Silver Knights. However, any student is welcome to bring their own snacks and lunch with them for allergy safety, dietary restrictions, or just personal choice.

Silver Knights players and staff will deliver hot dogs, Oreo cookies, chips, and water directly to us in our seats. Gluten-free buns and veggie burgers available upon request 100% beef hot dogs   Nut-free ballpark: no concessions cooked in peanut oil Students are welcome to bring their own lunch and snacks if preferred by students and/or parents/guardians.

Education Day was created to bring local students to Historic Holman Stadium for a fun, memorable, and meaningful experience as the school year winds down. It serves as a reward for their hard work while also giving many students the opportunity to experience a live baseball game, enjoy a free lunch, and spend time together in a setting outside the classroom. A major inspiration behind the day is letting kids understand and experience the history of Holman Stadium itself, and understand why it is called "Historic" Holman Stadium. Students get to walk the same grounds where Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe of the Nashua Dodgers broke the color barrier in professional baseball before Jackie Robinson did so at the Major League level. Throughout the stadium, there are signs and plaques commemorating that history, helping turn the day into both an entertaining break from the classroom as well as an educational experience displaying history that has happened right in their backyards. Another special part of the day is the interaction between the students and the Silver Knights players. The players personally help distribute lunches, talk with the students, sign autographs, and spend time engaging with them throughout the day. It gives kids the chance to connect with positive role models and see college student-athletes pursuing their own dreams.
