Whether you’re exploring our school for the very first time or you’ve been part of our special community for years, I am glad you’re here! Choosing a school is a very important decision, and I hope this glimpse into who we are will help you understand why so many of us feel incredibly fortunate to call SNA home.

 

At SNA, we believe school should be a place where students are excited to learn, eager to ask questions, and confident enough to take risks. We want students to leave each day with muddy shoes, curious minds, meaningful relationships, and the feeling that they truly belong. (To be clear, the muddy shoes are not a requirement, but they do happen with surprising frequency.)

 

Learning at SNA doesn’t happen inside a box. Our students investigate authentic questions, solve real-world problems, collaborate across disciplines, and create meaningful work that extends beyond the classroom walls. Through placed based and project based learning, along with transdisciplinary experiences, differentiated instruction, and a holistic student development approach, our students don’t simply memorize information; they learn how to think critically, how to wonder, how to persevere, and how to make a meaningful difference.

 

Just as important as academic excellence is the kind of community we strive to cultivate. We believe that every member of our community deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and celebrated for exactly who they are, regardless of their background. Diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and belonging are not just words on our webpage; they are commitments that shape our culture every single day. We intentionally create an environment where differences are embraced, every voice matters, and kindness is considered a strength. Our students learn that the world is richer because of the unique experiences, perspectives, identities, and talents each person brings to it.

 

One of my favorite symbols of our school is our mascot, Sir Isaac the Newt. We are proud to call ourselves Newtonians and, around here, being a “Newt” means something special. Like our state amphibian, the red-spotted newt, we learn to thrive in many different environments. We celebrate different backgrounds, different strengths, and different ways of thinking. We challenge ourselves to be nimble by adapting with creativity and resilience. We are enthusiastic, bringing joy, curiosity, and energy to each day. We strive to be welcoming by making sure everyone feels a sense of belonging from the moment they step on campus. Finally, we are tenacious, as we understand that growth comes from trying, learning, sometimes getting it wrong, and trying again. 
 

I think it goes without saying that we are serious about learning. We believe that students rise to high expectations when they are known, supported, and challenged. Our academic program is intentionally rigorous, engaging students in meaningful work that stretches their thinking, nurtures resilience, and inspires them to tackle complex problems with confidence. We maintain small class sizes so teachers can provide individualized support while encouraging every student to reach their fullest potential. We also laugh often, celebrate frequently, spend plenty of time outdoors, cheer one another on, and remember that school should be a place where students love to come each morning.
