2nd Nature Academy (SNA) is seeking a full-time elementary classroom teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, who sees themselves as an engaged facilitator of student-driven inquiry.


  • Developing the classroom as a collaborative, problem-solving community

  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop lessons and challenges that are transdisciplinary

  • Setting and maintaining criteria for quality work

  • Promoting student engagement through Project Based Learning and Place Based Education

  • Planning and structuring student exhibitions of learning

  • Increasing student comprehension, motivation, and investment in their own learning

  • Improving students' growth mindset, habits, and skills that will prepare them for success in future learning, in career, and in life itself

  • Engaging students to become more invested in their own learning

  • Providing outdoor education on an idyllic campus that boasts farm, fields, and forest

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • An understanding of project, problem, place, and inquiry based learning philosophies (teaching experience with these philosophies preferred)

  • An understanding of foundational academic skills at the elementary level, specifically math and literacy

  • Strong written communication skills

  • An understanding of Multiple Intelligences

  • An ability to differentiate instruction and accommodate diverse learning styles

  • A classroom management style that promotes a respectful and safe classroom environment and emphasizes multimodal instruction

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to openly communicate with families

  • A willingness to experiment and try new methods and approaches

  • An ability to work collaboratively within the teaching community

  • An ability to develop fun, engaging, and innovative challenges

  • A willingness to promote understanding and communication in a diverse learning environment

  • A willingness to accept feedback and desire to learn and grow

  • Teaching experience at the elementary level in non-traditional classroom environments preferred


Preference will be given to candidates with Orton-Gillingham or comparable literacy training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education

  • Teaching certification preferred
