MIDDLE SCHOOL
THE BRAIN UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Awkward. Invisible. Forgotten.
For many, these are the words that define middle school. It is often viewed as a "gauntlet" to be survived—a time of high stakes and low control. While the biological turbulence of these years is inevitable, the feeling of being unsafe or unseen is not. And any parent or caregiver of a middle schooler can tell you that their child is so much more dynamic, interesting, and worthy of their own unique attention than schools often afford them.
At SNA, we refuse to treat middle school as a mere "in-between" or a place where students languish on their way to high school. We believe these years are a developmental goldmine. Our mission is to transform the middle school experience from a period of "getting through it" to a time of being understood, celebrated, and empowered in its own right.
