When we speak of educating the whole person, we are referring to all aspects of child and student development: cognitive, social, emotional, and physical. Climbing, running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing are critical to the development of youths. Therefore, it is our policy to go outdoors most days, in rain or shine. However, certain weather conditions may prevent us from going out. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, extreme cold, and icy conditions, for example, would be instances when we would keep students inside. In addition, we will frequently be working in the garden, hiking in the woods, and observing wildlife in the fields and around the ponds. We request, then, that your student is appropriately dressed for rugged outdoor activities.
