SNA Runners Make Their Mark

Updated: 8 hours ago

The SNA Cross Country team has come a long way this season growing in both focus and dedication. What began a few years ago as a small afterschool club has turned into a serious and competitive team. “It’s serious," said Freshman Braela Stearns who has been on the team in previous years and now is helping to coach. “We only have these after school clubs if we have people who are willing to participate and put forth their all.” This season, which ran from early September to late October, has been full of highlights. For example, many personal records (PR’s) were set, and the team put on an impressive performance at the Tri-County meet, where 6th grade runner Aela Ayer placed 6th in her division. Despite some injuries, the team has been giving their all this season, with team members like Braela Stearns and Noah Auger stepping up to help coach.

Practices mix hard work with fun and creative warm ups. For example, Braela explained their favorite out-of-the-box warm up is called “Boom, Boom, Pause,” a drill Coach Yanna usually leads designed to help with cadence and breathing. The team hopes the SNA community recognizes their effort and supports them as they continue to build their program.
