Getting to Know Coach Yanna

If you’ve had a gym class recently, or you’ve just walked the halls of SNA, chances are you’ve seen Coach Yanna. Coach Yanna serves a number of different roles at SNA. In addition to working as one of the cross country and track teams’ coaches, she serves as a substitute teacher and, most recently, has become our new gym teacher.

Before coming to SNA, Coach Yanna built an impressive career. She currently works a full-time, at home job for Snowflake, a software service company, where she has been working for about four years. She works for teams located both in India and Australia, and she starts her days at 3:00 AM doing work from home, then she comes to school, and then she works back at home until around 9:00 PM.

Before entering the tech and teaching world, Coach Yanna served in the U.S. army for around 20 years. She started as a combat medic, but later became a licensed nurse which led to her eventually becoming a nurse practitioner before she retired in her mid 30s.

Coach Yanna started volunteering, and then later subbing, at SNA because she wanted a more social environment. Working from home meant she spent most of her days behind the computer, and she wanted the opportunity to connect more with people face-to-face. She also already felt connected to the school because her daughter Harmony has attended SNA since childcare, and she is now in 5th grade.

Outside of work, Coach Yanna likes sewing, knitting, reading, rollerskating, skiing, and music. As the substitute, teacher helper, and new gym teacher, she says her job is fun, keeps her active, and helps her reach her exercise goals. She said her favorite part of her job is that every day is different and not boring. Coach Yanna’s energy, dedication, and unique experiences make her a great fit for the SNA community, and we are so happy to have her as part of our school.
