We Are America is a national storytelling project where high school students write personal narratives about what it means to be an American. These stories explore the students’ experiences with race, religion, immigration, disability, and growth in the context of what it means to be American. By writing these stories, students get to say, “This is me, and this is my America.” By reading these stories, others come to understand what America looks like through many different eyes.

Last year, SNA upper school students had the opportunity to participate in this amazing program. Middle and high school students shared their stories without filters and without fear. Each story in the book is written by a student who lived their experience, making it personal and honest. This book invites readers to rethink what it means to be an American, and it gives insight into the lives of many of the students in our community.
Read the book We Are America to discover real stories from SNA students who were brave enough to share who they are and their personal experiences about what being an American means to them. You’ll walk away with more empathy, awareness, and a deeper understanding of what America truly looks like.
