This year upper school students are taking an elective called Exploring Diversity. The main goal of this class is to celebrate diversity and to understand its importance in our society. Throughout the semester, students worked on personal projects that celebrated their identities and what makes them unique.
On Wednesday, December 10th, students shared these projects at an expo that took place in the Great Room of the daycare building. Students were given the choice of creating a song, composing a piece of writing, or creating an art project that reflected who they are and what they value. The expo gave the community a chance to see upper school students in new ways. Katherine Henry, a high school Junior, said that it was, “a really nice way to see a different side of people I don't get to see.”

Teachers also expressed admiration. Mrs. Gleeson said, “I was very impressed not only by the quality, but how students were willing to make themselves vulnerable. It takes a lot of bravery to put it on paper and make it accessible to such a large audience; I was very impressed with the way people took that risk, but trusted they could do this with this community. [It is] very heartwarming.” Mrs. Ayer also expressed how heartwarming it was to see students taking risks and trusting their school community, saying, “I was blown away by the talent and bravery the students exhibited. I'm so glad that students felt safe to express themselves in such beautiful and meaningful ways.”
By putting their identities on display, students created a moment of connection that will always be remembered, and they took a moment to celebrate themselves and what makes them unique.
